Physical causes of erection problems
The process of getting an erection is complex and problems may arise for various reasons. These problems can be psychological, physical or a combination of both.
Physical causes of erection problems are related to a defect or damage to the chain of events leading to an erection. This series includes impulses in the brains, spine, and penis and the subsequent reaction of the muscles, connective tissue, arteries and blood vessels in and around the swelling.
Erectile dysfunction due to disease:
Often the defect or damage to the series affect the blood vessels, muscles and surrounding tissue of the penis. And this defect is usually the result of an illness. Diseases that often cause erection problems include:
- Diabetes: Diabetes can damage nerves and arteries which make getting an erection difficult. According to a large U.S. study experienced an average 45% of men with diabetes or even erectile dysfunction. Some estimates are considerably higher and that up to 75% of men with diabetes sometimes have erection problems. The risk increases with age.
- Kidney Disease: Kidney disease may cause chemical changes in your body cause your hormones, blood circulation, energy and functioning of the nervous system. These changes often have a negative effect on the libido (sexual needs). Medications prescribed for treatment of kidney disease can also cause erectile dysfunction.
- Neurological disorders (brains and nervous system): The nervous system plays a key role in the ability to obtain and maintain an erection and it is common for men with diseases such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and spinal cord injuries to experience erectile dysfunction. This is because there is an interruption to the transmission of signals between the brains and the penis.
- Diseases: Diseases affecting the blood vessels. Among diseases includes: artheromatose (arteriosclerosis), high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These diseases, which account for 70% responsible for the physical causes of erectile dysfunction, reduce blood flow to the heart, brains and penis.
- Prostate cancer: Prostate cancer in itself is no cause of erection problems but its treatment (radiation, hormonal manipulation or surgery) can lead to erectile dysfunction.
Erectile dysfunction by other physical causes:
The physical causes are not only disease-related. There are other reasons for this, including:
- Surgery: When is surgery to treat diseases such as prostate cancer often surrounding nerves and other tissue removed can lead to erectile dysfunction. Some of these treatments have only a temporary effect on potency (6 to 18 months) while others can cause permanent damage to the tissue around the penis. This treatment is needed to return to get an erection.
- Injuries: Injuries to the pelvis, bladder, spinal cord and the penis which is necessary to operate often lead to erectile dysfunction.
- Hormonal imbalance: An imbalance of hormones, such as thyroid hormone, prolactin and testosterone can influence the response to sexual stimulation. The imbalance may be due to a tumor, the pituitary gland, kidney disease, liver disease or hormone treatment for prostate cancer.
- Venous leakage: If the veins in the penis are unable to return flow of blood to stop during erection, erection can not be held. This is called a venous leak and may be due to injury or illness.
- Tobacco, alcohol or drug use: These three compounds all three can damage the blood vessels and / or restrict blood flow to the penis allowing erection problems. In people with atherosclerosis is particularly smoking a big role in causing erection problems.
- Prescription drugs: There are 200 kinds of medicines prescribed to erection problems can cause.
- Enlargement of the prostate: Narrowing of the urethra by enlargement of the prostate can cause erection problems.
